The code for OpenBTS-UMTS 1.0 was posted today by Range Networks — the first ever open source 3G stack! Keep in mind for now it supports data transmission only. The code was first demo’d by Harvind Samra in July at OSCON in Portland during the OpenBTS BoF — after some interminable wrestling with licensing clean-up, the code is out! Ettus Research and Nuand have shown support for this 3G project and plan to develop SDRs that support OpenBTS-UMTS.
